Hello Library Supporters,

Recent discussions and actions by both the Fontana Regional Library Board of Trustees and the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, along with ongoing anonymous attacks on local media and library staff and supporters, have created an urgent need for legal guidance and potential legal action to safeguard the stability, independence, and future of our public libraries and the freedom to read.

Quality legal counsel is essential and expensive. JCPL Allies, Inc. was formed as a nonpartisan organization to ensure that our community has the resources to respond thoughtfully, transparently, and lawfully to decisions that could significantly impact library services in Jackson County.

Our immediate goal is to raise enough to secure a legal retainer. While we are still selecting an attorney or firm, early estimates suggest that initial legal costs will be in the $20,000 to $25,000 range. Your support now will help ensure that we can move forward without delay.

We hope to secure counsel within the next few weeks so we can respond promptly to unfolding developments.

Our goal is to raise the funds needed for a legal retainer by March 15, 2026.
