Jackson County Public Library Complex in Sylva, NC

The Jackson County Commissioners are considering revising the lease agreement between the county and the library complex. From what we understand , the courthouse would have a separate lease with a group - not the library - managing its use. All funds were raised for the Jackson County Public Library Complex, not two unrelated entities. And, there is real concern that a group, other than the library, managing its use could make the facility less accessible to everyone in the community.

Several people spoke about the Jackson County Public Library Complex at the Jan. 6, 2026, county commissioners' meeting. The link to the meeting video with time stamps follows.

Betsey Hamlet speaks about the money raised to build the library complex at 37:47.

Antoinette MacWatt speaks about the use of the spaces in the complex at 41:14.

Mary Otto Selzer presents a PowerPoint overview of fundraising for the complex at 2:27. This PowerPoint is available as a PDF:
