Thank you to everyone who attended the Book Friends & Tea event on Sunday, June 7. It was a huge success with many people in attendance enjoying several delicious tea varieties, scones, and chocolate treats. A very special thank you goes to Snake Song for the delightful varieties of tea served in actual teapots, to Baxley Chocolates for the to-die-for chocolate confections, and to Eclectic Soul for the scrumptious scones and cereal bars. We are very lucky to have these incomparable businesses in Sylva.

The community was invited to join us for this unique tea party picnic at Bridge Park with lots of fun, reading-related activities. The Jackson County Arts Council and the Sylva Art + Design Committee provided various hands-on art activities for children and children-at-heart. The Friends of the Jackson County Public Library offered a selection of free books and provided prizes for the event.

We even had a costume contest with heartfelt thanks to our illustrious judges, Grace Powell, director of the Jackson County Public Libraries, and Jazmyne Baylor, education librarian at Western Carolina University. Six participants earned prizes for their fantastic costumes, but the judges said it was very difficult to narrow the choices down because all of the costumes were outstanding.

We are delighted that so many people decided to spend the afternoon with us celebrating reading and our community.
