Jackson County Public Library Complex

At their Feb. 17th, the county commissioners announced that a library director for the Jackson County Public Libraries was hired. While she finishes up the year working as the Scotts Creek Elementary School librarian, Grace Powell will be working part time at the Jackson County Public Libraries. The JCPL Allies have reached out to ask her how we can best help with the transition to her new position. We hope to be true allies to her, and to help her be successful in this position. Please extend a warm welcome to her if you see her at the library!

More information about Ms. Powell and the county's plans can be found in the Sylva Herald.

We don't know exactly how the county public libraries will be governed, but that shouldn't stop us from lobbying in any way we can to be sure that services, programs, materials, and staff aren't diminished. Supporting our libraries does not mean giving support to the people who make bad policy and poor decisions for us.

It remains very important that we monitor what happens to our libraries going forward. New elected officials and new library board members will eventually govern. We want them to have something left on which they can rebuild.
