A Sea Of Yellow
The Jackson County Commissioner's meeting on Aug. 5 was once again a sea of yellow. Twenty-four people spoke in favor of our libraries and staying within the Fontana Regional Library system. One person spoke against the FRL, and he used wildly incorrect numbers to do so. Supportive speakers shared their love of the library system and their hope that the Commissioners will be brave enough to reverse their decision while there is still time. Too Many Hats for One Head?
Tracy Fitzmaurice – Regional Director Tracy has programming and administrative responsibility for the six libraries in the FRL. County librarians report to her. The bylaws of the FRL make this a part-time position for which she is paid a stipend. She advises Macon and Swain counties regarding becoming a two-library regional system.
