Welcome!
We are so glad you are here! We invite you to be part of our journey as we work to insure that our public libraries in Jackson County continue to be welcoming places with materials and resources for all members of our community. To do that, one of our main goals is to convince the Jackson County Commissioners to end their planned exit from the Fontana Regional Library. In addition to our social media channels (see links at the bottom of the page), we will post content here th

Anonymous Saboteurs Are At It Again
The JCPL Allies have received photographs of a flyer that is being circulated by opponents of the Fontana Regional Library (FRL). We have been told that it is being shared by a current commissioner, but so far, this is unsubstantiated. If any of you has a physical copy of the flyer, or know for certain who is responsible, will you please contact us? We would appreciate it. The JCPL Allies has issued the following statement to the press in response to the flyer. Please share:

WCU junior, Chloe Koz, with a book called "How To Save A Library" that she created for the Book Swap. Thanks to a hard-working Western Carolina University student and her desire to do something for her new community, the recent Book Swap held at the Jackson County Public Library Complex in Sylva was born. A Glimmer of Hope
Dear JCPL Allies, This week’s Sylva Herald included a brief article that suggests a glimmer of hope for Jackson County Public Libraries' continued membership in the Fontana Regional Library. Three workable addenda have been proposed to strengthen Jackson County’s commitment to the FRL, and our commissioners will vote on them on Nov. 18. Macon and Swain counties will also be voting on the document within the same week. The proposed modifications appear at the end of this post

A Vibrant Partnership: Community and Libraries
Did you know that you can make book requests at the library, and the Fontana Regional Library will do its best to add your requests to the collection? The library represents and supports ALL residents, not just a select few. If you feel a subject needs better coverage or you don’t see yourself represented in the collection, let them know. A Macon County resident recently mentioned the dearth of books about sexual abstinence in the Fontana Regional Library System. If this is a

Advisory Board Volunteers Needed
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications for currently available positions on many county advisory boards, including three positions on the Jackson County Public Library Board. Please consider applying for one of the library positions, as well as spots on any of the other boards. Library Supporters Outnumber Opponents...Again
Take a minute to read this excellent article by Cory Vaillancourt in the Smoky Mountain News. It sums up perfectly what's really behind the animosity toward the library. Click on the image below.

All Are Welcome Here
About 150 community members came together for a read-in on Sunday, organized with just 30 hours' notice. Our presence affirmed a shared belief: that public library spaces should remain open and accessible to all. Sylva Pride reserved the JCPL community room for a private event while the library was closed, following proper procedures and paying the required fee. In response, the Jackson County GOP brought in the group Mass Resistance to organize a protest and called on locals

How Budgets Work
FICTION At the Aug. 5, 2025, Jackson County Commissioners meeting*, Keith Blaine, head of the Jackson County GOP, claimed that the Fontana Regional Library has “$2.5 million that has been accumulating for 80 years.” He claimed it was an “overpayment” in just “one of their checking accounts.” Take a look at the source material (to the right) for this confusing interpretation. Whether unintentionally or by design, the facts have been twisted or completely changed to serve a pa

A Sea Of Yellow
The Jackson County Commissioner's meeting on Aug. 5 was once again a sea of yellow. Twenty-four people spoke in favor of our libraries and staying within the Fontana Regional Library system. One person spoke against the FRL, and he used wildly incorrect numbers to do so. Supportive speakers shared their love of the library system and their hope that the Commissioners will be brave enough to reverse their decision while there is still time. The focus of the comments was on the
